Some Powers Do Not Look Like Powers

The loud gifts get the stage. They are easy to film. And because they are easy to film, an entire generation has quietly concluded that if their gift does not photograph, they were skipped.

I want to read you a different list.

The one who changes the temperature of a room by entering it, and has been told their whole life that they are just calming. The one who hears the note underneath the noise, the actual thing being said beneath the sentence being spoken. The one who knows a thing before anybody tells them and has learned to keep quiet about it because being right early makes people uneasy. The one who makes something with their hands and other people cry at it and cannot explain why.

None of that photographs. All of it is power.

I work in colour and in sound, and I will tell you what I have learned there. The frequency that moves a room is rarely the loudest one present. It is the one that is true. A true note at low volume will reorganise a space that shouting could not touch.

So if you concluded you had nothing, I would gently suggest you were using the wrong instrument to measure. You were looking for a flash. Yours may be a frequency.

You were not skipped. You were tuned differently, and a different tuning is still an instrument.
