Five Fires, One Altar

I have seen what happens when all five show up in the same room and stop competing. I have also seen what happens when they do not. I would like to describe both.

Four of the five, working well, will build you something respectable. It will function. It will last a few years. And it will have one exact hole in it, in the shape of whoever is missing, and everything that eventually goes wrong will go wrong through that hole.

No Trailblazer and the work never leaves the building it started in. No Seer and it walks into things it could have seen coming. No Catalyst and it stays a small faithful thing that never spreads. No Guardian and it burns its own people to reach the target. No Sage and it cannot survive the founders, so it dies with them and everybody says what a shame.

I have watched all five of those funerals.

Now the other thing. When five different fires stop arguing about which flame is hottest and get on the same altar, what comes down is not five times bigger. It is a different category of event.

That is what a squad is for. Not for the org chart. Not so everybody has a title. So that the thing you were sent to do actually survives contact with the world.

And this is the part I need you to hear. The formation cannot be complete until each one knows which fire they are. A Guardian who thinks they are supposed to be a Trailblazer will burn themselves out inside two years trying to lead something they were built to hold.

Your squad has a hole in it right now, and it is exactly the shape of whoever has not been told what they are. That might be somebody near you. It might be you.
