It Always Brings Up Your Worst Day
Have you noticed that the bad thoughts always reach for the same memory? The same one, every time.
Everybody has one. The moment you got it wrong in front of people. The thing you said. The day you would take back.
Here is what I want you to notice, and it is not about the memory at all. It is about the timing.
It never comes up when you are already having a bad day. It comes up right before you try something.
Before you put your hand up. Before you go and talk to the new person. Before you try the thing you might not be good at yet.
That is not a coincidence and it is not your conscience. Your conscience wants you to put something right and then it is finished with you. This other thing never wants anything put right. It only ever wants you to sit back down.
So the next time an old memory arrives at exactly the moment you were about to move, you are allowed to ask a question. Why now?
Nothing that is telling you the truth is afraid of that question.
The old memory turning up right as you step forward is not honesty. Honesty does not check your calendar first.
