Something Studied You Before It Ever Came For You

I want to say this carefully, because it is easy to make it sound like a horror story and it is not one. It is reconnaissance, and reconnaissance is survivable once you know it happened.

The lie that stops a Trailblazer is not the lie that stops a Sage. You cannot slow a Trailblazer by telling them they are unqualified, they have never once cared about that. You slow them by convincing them the ground ahead is already taken. A Sage is not stopped by complexity, they eat complexity. A Sage is stopped by being made to feel that nobody is listening, so why bother making it plain.

Different door for every house. And something took the time to learn which door yours was.

This is not a list of your weaknesses. I want to be plain about that, because the church has handed people enough of those. A weakness inventory tells you what is wrong with you. This tells you who is working against you, which is a completely different sentence and a far more useful one.

The struggle is not against flesh and blood. It never was. Every hour you have spent believing the problem was your own character was an hour something else was very glad you were spending that way.

In the world we are in now, the ones hunting you do not look like monsters. They look like messengers. Same shape, opposite content.

Something has been assigned to you specifically. It knows your name and your door. You are allowed to know its name too.
