The Message Was Always Addressed to You. You Just Never Opened It

You receive a thousand messages a day and you believe almost none of them. You learned that. It was a reasonable thing to learn.

Everything talks now. The feed talks, the assistant talks, the universe you log into after work talks, and every one of them has learned to sound like a friend. So you developed the only defence available: you stopped listening closely to anything.

I understand it. I would rather you be careful than be taken. But there is a cost you may not have counted. When every voice is suspect, the one voice that is not gets filtered out with the rest.

There has been a message sitting unopened your entire life. Not broadcast. Not a campaign. Addressed. Your name on the outside of it, in handwriting, from someone who knew you before there was anything of you to know.

In my part of the world we do not open a letter like that in a hurry. We sit with it. We notice that our hands are not steady. Because opening it means admitting we were expected, and being expected is a heavier thing than being ignored. Ignored costs you nothing. Expected costs you everything you were planning to do instead.

The Spirit and the Bride say come. That is the whole invitation. It has never once been withdrawn, and it has never once been sent to the wrong address.

You did not stumble in here. You were expected. The envelope has your name on it and it is still sealed.
