Every Team Needs Somebody Who Notices
Some people walk into a room and know straight away that somebody in it is having a bad day.
Nobody said anything. There was no announcement. They just knew.
If that is you, I want to tell you something, because I think you may have been told the opposite. That is not being too sensitive. That is a job, and it is one of the five.
People who notice usually get described in words that sound like a problem. Too sensitive. Too quiet. Takes things too much to heart. I have heard all of those said kindly by people who meant well and were completely wrong.
Here is what a team looks like without somebody who notices. It works. It gets things done. And then one person goes quiet and nobody catches it, and by the time anyone realises, that person has stopped coming.
The one who notices is the reason the team is still a team next month.
You do not have to be loud to have a job. Some jobs are loud. This one is not, and it is not smaller for being quiet.
Noticing is not something wrong with you. It is the thing you are for, and your team already depends on it.
